Most Instagrammable Spots in Penang, Malaysia
Penang, Malaysia has got to be one of the most underrated places I’ve ever visited. When I decided to visit, I had no idea this place was as stunning, gorgeous, and preserved as it was.
Here are the Most Instagrammable Spots in Penang, Malaysia
I’ve also created a map with EXACTLY where I took these photographs at the end. These pins come directly from the GPS marker on my photos.
Kek Lok Si Temple
One word: wow.
When I decided to go to Penang, I did not expect to stumble across something so stunning. The Kek Lok Si temple is much, much larger than I expected, and extremely underrated. I highly recommend everyone visiting Penang to set aside a day to visit (and photograph) the Kek Lok Si temple.
Address: Kek Lok Si Temple, 11500 Ayer Itam, Penang

Penang Hill
There’s a lot of things to photograph in Penang Hill, but I personally enjoy the peak view most. There’s a train that will take you right to the top.
Address: 11500 Bukit Bendera, Penang, Malaysia

Chew Jetty
The Jetties in Penang are truly a sight to see. There are a few, but the Chew and Tan Jetties are my favorite. I felt like I was walking through a video game when exploring these jetties because I didn’t know they still existed IRL.
Address: Chew Jetty, Weld Quay, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Tan Jetty
The Tan Jetty is also one of the most scenic jetties in my opinion. It’s a quick stroll, but is home to this wooden bridge and red house that I think makes for a gorgeous photo.
Address: 10300 George Town, Penang, Malaysia

Avatar Secret Garden
Worth a visit to photograph pretty lights hanging from trees like the Avatar movie! It was a bit hard to find (ask for directions!), but definitely worth checking out.
Note: Bring a tripod.
Address: 336 Jalan Tokong Thai Pak Koong Tanjung Bungah, 11200 Malaysia

Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin Temple
This temple wasn’t in any of the guidebooks or blogs I read before visiting Penang. In fact, it wasn’t on my itinerary at all. I saw this place from afar while standing at one of the jetties and just tried to follow the colors to see it from myself.
And boy, is it stunning. Definitely well worth a visit. It’s free!
Address: No. A Reclamation Area, 52, Pengkalan Weld, Georgetown, 10300 George Town, Malaysia

Chaiya Mangalaram Thai Buddhist Temple
I also just stumbled across this temple while just strolling through Penang. Saw the spikes from afar and just kind of followed it to see what it was. This is a large temple with expansive grounds, and it’s free to visit!
Address: 17, Lorong Burma, Pulau Tikus, 10250 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi
This Kongsi is one of the most informative places I’ve visited in Penang. Not only is it extremely photographable, but there’s a great exhibit of Chinese immigration to Malaysia here too.
*Note: The top photo is a photo I took of a screen in Khoo Kongsi.
Address: 18 Cannon Square, 10200 Penang, Malaysia

Goddess of Mercy Temple
This isn’t the grandest place I’ve visited in Malaysia, but it’s still pretty cute with lots of character. Worth a stop for some history and photographs.
Address: 30, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling 10200 George Town Penang, Malaysia

St. George's Anglican Church
Cute church! One of the greeters here was extremely informative and gave a little history lesson on the story of this place.
